Nelson began his career in the landscape industry in 1964 doing cost accounting for Valley crest Landscape, Inc. after majoring in accounting and real estate at Los Angeles City College.

After several months in cost accounting, he was moved into the estimating department.  He was ten assigned several projects as project expediter.

In 1973, he started Colvin Sprinkler Co. a full service landscape irrigation company, which specialized in irrigation and drainage for all size projects (residential, commercial, and public works).

In 1976, Colvin Sprinkler Co. was sold and he joined American Landscape, Inc. as Vice President of Sales & Marketing and also as Chief Estimator.

In 1985 he joined California Landscape, Inc. as President and Chief Marketing Officer. He was responsible for the entire administrative department including all entities (California Landscape Maintenance, Inc. Oakridge Landscape, Inc, and Capistrano Wholesale Nurseries, Inc.)

In 1994 Nelson became Executive Director Chief Executive Officer of the CLCA Welfare Insurance Trust (in 2000 became Golden Oak Cooperative Corp.).

               the Association

1983 -    Elected to CLCA State Executive Board

1987 -    Elected CLCA State President

1990 -    Awarded CLCA Allegiance Award

1990 -    Elected to the Insurance Board of Trustees

1996 -    CLCA Life Membership

2004 -    Women’s Auxiliary Member of the Year

Nelson currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Californian’s for Compensation Reform (CCWC)

Nelson lives in Northridge with his wife of 34 years Leslie.  He has two children  daughter Dayna and son Adam.  He enjoys  reading, golf and playing Fantasy Baseball.
