Richard Greenland
After receiving a BS degree in business administration from Cal State LA in 1971, Richard worked in the insurance industry until January, 1981 at which time he joined Superior Controls Co, manufacturer of irrigation valves and controllers. Superior Controls was founded in 1949 by brothers Powell and Allen Greenland. Powell is Richard’s father.
Richard began his career with Superior Controls as sales representative for Northern California and Western Nevada calling on irrigation distributors, designers, and public agencies. In 1985, Richard relocated to Southern California and assumed the position of Marketing Director.
After Powell Greenland retired in 1988, Richard became involved in other aspects of the company including sales management, product development, technical support including on-site troubleshooting, and various administrative duties such as insurance procurement.
After Allen Greenland retired in 2002, Richard became Vice President and General Manager of the company until August, 2006 when Superior Controls Co was acquired by Storm Industries located in Torrance, CA. Superior became part of Storm Manufacturing Group, a division of Storm Industries. Prior to acquiring Superior Controls Co, Storm acquired Buckner Irrigation in 2000. The irrigation brand of Storm Manufacturing Group became known as Buckner/Superior.
Richard, thinking he would stay on board with Storm Manufacturing Group for two or three years, actually stayed for sixteen years as Technical Service and Training Manager. He retired in May 2022.
